I’m celebrating my 48th year on Planet Earth by sharing LivingJoy. The LivingJoy theme, Life is a Flow of Joy . . . Full of Problems has been growing in my heart for a number of years. Professionally, I’m a certified project manager, and one definition of a project is a problem scheduled for solution. Well, that meansI’m buried up to my neck in problems. But I still want to be happy!

And I’ve discovered how. The solution has two parts: Love, and practical work.

The love I’m talking about has many names: Unconditional Love, Mindfulness, Loving Awareness, Radical Acceptance, Radiant Love. It is a feeling, a glow from the heart that warms everything. And each one of us can turn on the switch and light the light of our hearts – any time, any place.

Loving all the time isn’t easy. The world has taught us all
kinds of reasons to be unhappy. We think we need to be unhappy until we get what we want or fix things and make them all right.

Let’s turn that around. Life may be full of problems. So, be happy anyway! Be happy now! Be happy in the midst of life, even when the particular events are dark and dreary.

I’m not advocating laughing at funerals. But I am advocating being fearless and loving, even at funerals, accident scenes, hospitals, and hospices.

I’m not a lightheaded, foolish optimist. I am a realist – life is full of problems. And I’m also an optimist – we can be happy even as we work to solve our problems. And because we are people, we have heart and courage and compassion and intelligence. We can solve our problems. From a place of Love – being Love, radiating Love – we take practical action to solve our problems, to be creative, to make our lives and the world a better place.

I’m celebrating life by unpacking my toolkit and sharing it with you. I share two types of tools on LivingJoy – tools for feeling the flow of joy in every moment of life, and tools for solving our problems.

Join me – we’ll have fun doing serious work. We’ll make our lives and the lives of those we love better. And we’ll do it with joy, peace, and commitment.
A Bit About My Background

LivingJoy comes from all of who I am: professional, personal, and spiritual.

Professionally, I’m an author, consultant, and coach. I’ve written eight books, four of them on project management, and one of them an amazon.com bestseller for small businesses. Another is about creating a healthy, productive workplace through emotionally intelligent coaching-style management. As a consultant, I’ve helped major companies like J. P. Morgan Investment Bank and state and Federal government agencies. But what I like most is to take the best that the big boys are doing and scale it down for small business. I focus on leadership, quality, and project management.

I believe in leading by example. And I believe in following good role models. This brings in my spiritual side: My most successful leadership program is called: Share Joy and Serve: Leadership Lessons From Winners of the Nobel Peace Prize.

On the spiritual side, I’ve been meditating for 28 years, and teaching meditation for 20. I’ve studied and learned from all religious traditions, and also philosophy, science, and psychology. I’m all for wholeness and integration. Did you know that whole, heal, healthy, and holy are all related words? For me, being spiritual means filling myself with Light and Joy and shining that forth as I walk through daily life.

Personally, I’ve been on a journey of bodymind integration for 35 years. I learned about Unconditional Love early in my teens, and I set out to learn it and live it with a vengeance. I’ve burned myself out on that journey more than once.

Most people who know me say being with me is pretty intense. It’s only recently that I’ve learned to be intensely peaceful, intensely calm, intensely present and nourishing.

I like people. I treat casual acquaintances as friends; friends as dear friends; and dear friends as family. I’ve studied emotional intelligence theory and learned three forms of psychotherapy, not to be a therapist, but just to be a better friend and coach. Your life matters to me almost as much as it does to you.
